“The place of conditionalism in the theological life of the Advent Christian denomination”

In my previous post, Church or Movement…, I prompted some thought regarding our theological priorities as a denomination. In keeping with that effort, I want to make you aware of an upcoming leaders conference that will discuss this in considerable depth.

The Eastern Regional Association and the Maranatha Advent Christian Association are hosting the Pastor and Church Leaders Conference at Alton Bay, NH from May 7-9 (Tues-Thur). Chris Date of Rethinking Hell will be speaking across several sessions on conditionalism and on Wednesday afternoon we will be having a panel discussion hosted by the Restoration Network (with audience participation) on the subject: “The place of conditionalism in the theological life of the Advent Christian denomination.”

As one of the organizers and members of this panel, I believe this will be a very substantive discussion; it could lay the groundwork for collectively sorting out what it really means to be Advent Christian today. Questions will range from the abstract (defining conditionalism most precisely) to the practical (should non-conditionalists be formally welcomed as Advent Christian pastors?).

Besides this important conversation, ACGC Executive Director Justin Nash will be joining us for the conference, speaking to us about pastoral mentorship and the biblical case for church membership.
