Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

Question 4: Who is God the Son?
Answer: He is Jesus, the Messiah, my Lord and Savior.

Jesus the second person of the godhead is co-equal with the other two persons, the Father and Spirit. However, his role is unique as much as the rest of the Trinity maintain their own divine role. The Son is the Messiah, the Lord, and the Savior.

Messiah is a term used throughout the Old Testament pointing towards Israel’s great hope. The One would come to rescue them, restore them, and free them. Lord is a term that sparks the idea of sovereignty, ruling, and authority. Savior is the title of Jesus that points to his sacrifice and divine calling to live a life of active and passive obedience to the point of death on the cross.

Your Savior knows you personally and his sacrificial life and death has been exchanged for your sin and depravity. Your Lord has demanded your joyful obedience to find your greatest joy and pleasure in him. Your Messiah has come and promises to return to restore all things in the new heavens and new earth. Why? Because you belong to him and he belongs to you. You are united to Christ and if that is true then he is the object of all your affections.
